Dental Staff

Dr. Wilkes is the owner of Keep on Smiling Pediatric and General Dentistry, formerly known as Desoto Dental Services. As a board certified Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Wilkes enjoys serving and connecting with families. Dr. Wilkes strives to deliver a 'wow' dental experience to all of his patients.  Dr. Wilkes was born in Greenville, MS. He grew up in East Memphis and Alabama. Dr. Wilkes graduated as the first African-American Valedictorian from Oxford High School (AL).

Dr. Wilkes attended the prestigious Morehouse College. While attending Morehouse,  Dr. Wilkes became an Oprah Scholar. As an Oprah Scholar, he had the opportunity to meet Oprah Winfrey on two different occasions.  After graduating from Morehouse College, Dr. Wilkes went on to attend Meharry Medical College. There, he served as the Academic Vice President of his dental class,  Polemarch (President) of the Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and
served as a Student Admissions Ambassador. 

Dr. Wilkes completed a two year residency at Case Western Reserve University and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He served as co-chief resident and obtained his certification in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Wilkes is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has practiced as a pediatric dentist for over ten years, built a thriving practice, and a great reputation amongst his patients and community. For five years, Dr. Wilkes was a partner in the Healthcare for the Homeless program that provided dental care to the homeless community in Houston and surrounding areas. He also worked at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Wilkes is a car enthusiast and his other hobbies include trying new restaurants, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with his family and dog (Memphis). As Dr. Wilkes’ patient, you should expect a warm, charismatic, and charming personality with a gentle touch. His goal is to create positive experiences and great memories with his patients, their family, and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Tameka Knight is originally from Beatrice, Alabama. She graduated as Valedictorian from her high school. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated with honors. Dr. Knight earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated in the top ten percentile of her dental class in 2012.

After dental school, Dr. Knight completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency program at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2014, Dr. Knight moved to Houston to pursue a career in dentistry. There she obtained a wealth of knowledge and experience from serving a diverse population and working at various practices. Giving back is very important to Dr. Knight, therefore she has participated in several volunteering events including: Houston Food Bank, a day of free dentistry at her office, Give Kids a Smile, and Smile Again.

She is an avid learner and attends many hours of continuing education to stay abreast of the best evidence-based technology to treat patients effectively. As Dr. Knight’s patient, you can expect honesty, comprehensive care, and treatment with the latest dentistry.

When she’s not practicing dentistry, she enjoys spending time with her husband and having fun adventures with her two boys, Tristan and Carter. She loves creating, designing, and esthetics. She also enjoys traveling, cooking, and working out.
